Parent Trainings

Helping Hands Children’s Therapy Services, Inc., located in New Lenox, IL is now offering Free parent training and support groups. Parents have questions, and we will help provide the answers to enhance your child’s skills. Following is a list of current parent trainings offered at the Helping Hands clinic:

Tools to Talk. This workshop will review developmental milestones for speech/language development and warning signs that could indicate problems. This workshop will share techniques on using toys to promote speech/language development and social skills.

Manageable Mealtimes. We know what a challenge it is for parents who have a picky eater. This class will describe the difference between picky eating and problem feeding. Specialized techniques will be provided to enhance your child’s ability to explore foods, tastes, and textures.

Making Sense out of Sensory Integration. We all have some level of sensory integration problems, however when it disrupts your daily routine it can make your life challenging. This training will provide an explanation of the different sensory systems, and activities will be provided in order to enhance your child’s functioning.

Praxis Makes Perfect. Has your therapist thrown around the words motor planning difficulties, motor speech disorder, or Apraxia of speech? Motor planning is a difficult topic to understand. This training will provide insight into what motor planning deficits are and current treatment options will be explored. This training will be lead by a speech, occupational, and physical therapist. Date to be determined.

Did you hear me? Do you feel like your child cannot hear you or is not “listening” to you? Do you need to repeat directions and questions SEVERAL times? Your child may have difficulty with Language Processing. Come meet with a Speech-Language Pathologist to learn about what language processing looks like and learn some quick strategies to help your child “understand” you.

Physical Therapy Questions…Answered. This parent training will provide rationale as to why kids develop motor skills the way they do and why it is important for development. Strength, tone, torticollis and the use of orthotics are a few topics that will be addressed.
